This show is co-organized by the NCMA and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art. Did you know that most art museums send couriers with their loaned objects? Because of the fragility of the pieces and the complexity of their mounts, a courier from the Smithsonian was scheduled to install several of these works in person. But COVID-19 travel restrictions prevented the courier from traveling, so some objects could not be installed. In their place, look for stylized reproductions, tinted purple.
